What happens when you consult an osteopath?
Back Print Page Email Page

An Osteopathic treatment can be divided into four parts:

Case history:

Your treatment will always begin with a detailed case history. This is necessary to find out more about the cause of your problem and, more importantly, whether we can help you or whether your problem requires refferal to a G.P.

Examination:

Your osteopath will then require you to undress down to your underwear so they can see how well your spine, skeleton and muscles appear to be working together. In this way, your osteopath can make a treatment plan tailored to your individual problem. (Some female patients may prefer to wear shorts during treatment.)

Treatment:

Osteopathy is a manual therapy and therefore we use our hands to release tension and restore function to the body. We use a variety of techniques, including soft tissue massage, stretching, gentle mobilisation of the joints and manipulation where neccessary.

Lifestyle Advice:

We will advise you on your lifestyle, giving exercises and postural advice. This will help you to manage your problem, so reducing painful symptoms and helping you to improve your health and quality of life.
